The President of Shiraz University of Medical Sciences announced that, following the finalization of the legal status of the Special Economic Zone of Shiraz International Health City within the national administrative framework, legal barriers to the registration and licensing of medical institutions in the area have been removed.
Speaking at a meeting of Shiraz University of Medical Sciences and Health Services, Dr. Seyed Basir Hashemi shared encouraging news for healthcare investors and operators, stating that applicants wishing to establish medical institutions within the Shiraz International Health City Special Economic Zone can now officially submit applications, obtain preliminary approvals, and receive operating licenses.
Explaining the previous limitations, he noted that the area had not yet been formally incorporated into the country’s administrative divisions. As a result, the necessary infrastructure had not been defined within the Ministry of Health’s licensing system, preventing investors and applicants from registering their projects.
Dr. Hashemi added that through the continuous efforts of the university and the support of the Fars Governorate, the issue was successfully resolved in coordination with the Ministry of Interior. Following the official inclusion of the zone in the national administrative structure, the Ministry of Health’s licensing platform is now fully prepared to process applications related to the establishment of healthcare facilities within this strategic development area.
He described this achievement as a major milestone in the expansion of healthcare infrastructure in Fars Province, emphasizing that the issuance of licenses will facilitate the establishment of advanced medical centers and specialized healthcare services, representing a significant step toward improving regional healthcare capacity.
Shiraz International Health City Special Economic Zone is the only specialized development zone in Iran dedicated to healthcare, wellness, and health tourism. The project spans more than 1,000 hectares in western Shiraz and has been designed as a comprehensive ecosystem for healthcare innovation and investment.
Benefiting from direct road and railway access, the zone holds strong potential to become a leading health tourism hub in West Asia and a major center for healthcare exchange with the Gulf region. In addition to advanced medical and research facilities, the master plan includes commercial, hospitality, and health-related industrial developments. Combined with tax incentives and exclusive investment benefits, these features create a unique vision for a modern and technology-driven health city.
